Graves County’s Eagles Defeat the Marshals 21-10

(DRAFFENVILLE, Ky.) — In a 5A, District 1 football matchup last Friday night, the Graves County Eagles defeated the Marshall County Marshals 21-10 Friday night at Carroll Traylor Stadium/Jim Shelton Field, using a balanced offensive attack to secure the victory.

Graves County junior quarterback Jace Houston led the Eagles’ offense, completing 20 of 30 passes for 233 yards and one touchdown while adding 21 rushing yards and another score on the ground. The Eagles dominated on the ground with 120 rushing yards, led by Brady Rozzell’s 93 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.

Houston’s favorite target was junior receiver Bodie Veucasovic, who hauled in six catches for 121 yards and a touchdown. Junior Ty Cavette added nine receptions for 100 yards in the winning effort.

The Marshals offense was slowed, managing just 117 rushing yards and 95 passing yards. Senior quarterback Neyland Jezik completed 11 of 22 passes for 95 yards but was intercepted twice.

Marshall County’s lone touchdown came from sophomore Jett Jones, who rushed for 57 yards and a score on three carries. Jones also contributed three receptions for 28 yards. Senior Kam Brown led the receiving corps with four catches for 37 yards.

Defensively, the Marshals were led by junior Carson Fogg’s eight solo tackles and senior Grant Franklin’s seven tackles and one interception. The Marshall County defense recorded one sack and four tackles for loss but couldn’t cut into the Eagles’ offensive rhythm.

For Graves County, junior Wilson Thomas anchored the defense with seven solo tackles and four assists, while adding an interception. Senior Hunter Ditto contributed four solo tackles and three assists with two tackles for loss.

Kicker Lorenzo Arellano converted all three extra-point attempts for the Eagles but missed one of two field goal attempts. Marshall County’s Brayden York made his lone extra-point attempt and connected on a field goal.

The Marshals are now 3-5 (1-3) while Graves County moves to 2-6 (1-3).  While a tiebreaker would favor the Eagles, the Marshals still have a path to the postseason, needing to win the last two games including Senior Night this Friday vs. Apollo.
