
(RUSSELLVILLE, Ky.) – Marshall County cross country runners battled tough competition Saturday at the KHSAA Region 1 Class 3A Championships, held at Logan County High School, with senior Kobey Yates claiming individual gold in the boys’ race.
Yates Dominates Boys’ 5K
Yates surged to victory in commanding fashion, clocking a winning time of 15:52.50 to capture the regional championship. His performance highlighted a solid team effort from the Marshall County boys’ squad.
Daniel Walker provided strong support, finishing 19th overall with a time of 18:12.70. Madden Lovett crossed the line in 30th place at 18:42.60, while Jared Gaudy placed 35th in 19:06.70.
Jake Fennel (19:31.30) and Thatcher Newnum (19:34.71) finished in close succession, taking 43rd and 44th place respectively. Chase Duncan rounded out the Marshals’ scoring, placing 58th with a time of 21:31.70.
Noles Leads Girls’ Squad
On the girls’ side, Lauren Noles paced Marshall County with a fifth-place finish, recording a time of 20:43.26 in the 5000-meter race.
Ava Sutherland and Eden Sandlin ran together through much of the course, finishing 23rd and 25th with times of 23:04.64 and 23:09.48 respectively. Avery Lyles claimed 31st place in 23:57.37.
Ava Moore (24:42.33) and Lexi Driver (24:49.25) finished 39th and 41st, while Destiny Dickson completed the course in 53rd place with a time of 30:18.98.
Both teams are now qualified for the KHSAA State Cross Country Championships in Lexington.
