Linda Kay “Nanny” Sowards, age 83, of Benton, KY, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Lakeway Rehab and Healthcare Center in Benton of natural causes surrounded by loved ones. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with Bro. Jacob Davidson officiating and burial to follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.

“Nanny” was born in Pike County, KY, on October 1, 1942, the daughter of the late Frank and Rosa Wright McFadden. Linda was a strong Christian lady who loved the Lord with all her heart. She attended New Palestine Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, before moving to Benton. She was a homemaker and an excellent seamstress and quilter. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Robert McFadden; and her five sisters, Helen Mullins, Ruth Daryl Mullins, Eula Kuhn, Alvilda Overton, and Nell Anderson.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Warren “Popa” Sowards of Benton, KY; her son, Kevin (Sherry) Sowards of Kuttawa, KY; her daughter, Karen (Stan) Parker of Benton, KY; her sister, Shirley (Dempsey) Mullins of Crofton, KY; her four grandchildren, John Wright II, Kristin Wright, Kevin W. Sowards, Daniel (Samantha) Parker; her six great grandchildren, Madison Childers, Makenzie Childers, Emily Wright, John Wright III, Jessica Carter, and Randalyn Carter; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
