(WEST PADUCAH, Ky.)-McCracken County High School was placed under lockdown Friday afternoon after staff received a phone call reporting a potential threat to the school.
The incident began at approximately 2:00 p.m. when front office staff received the threatening phone call, prompting immediate action from school administrators. The lockdown remained in effect while law enforcement cleared the building and surrounding campus.
Working alongside the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department and the district’s school resource team, officials conducted a thorough sweep of the facility. The building was declared safe at approximately 2:35 p.m.
Out of an abundance of caution, administrators and resource officers coordinated with the sheriff’s department to escort students in small groups to waiting buses beginning at 2:40 p.m. Other students were subsequently dismissed following the controlled bus departure.
“Our number one priority is always the safety and well being of students and staff,” Superintendent Josh Hunt and Principal Jonathan Smith said in a joint statement. “We appreciate your grace and patience as we cautiously navigated the situation and safe dismissal of our students and staff.”
No injuries were reported, and all students and staff were safely dismissed from campus. The investigation into the threat is ongoing.
