Ford’s Perfect Night Powers Murray State Women’s Basketball Past Trevecca 102-61

(MURRAY, Ky.) — Junior guard Haven Ford delivered a flawless performance Monday night, leading Murray State women’s basketball to a dominant 102-61 victory over Trevecca Nazarene in the final game of the preseason at the CFSB Center.

Ford shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the field, including 4-for-4 from three-point range, finishing with a game-high 22 points while adding six rebounds and four assists in the commanding win.

The Racers (1-0 in preseason) showcased their offensive firepower with five players reaching double figures. Halli Poock contributed 20 points on four three-pointers, while Sharnecce Currie-Jelks and Keslyn Secrist added 17 and 14 points, respectively. Braxcynn Baker sparked the bench unit with 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting.

Murray State set the tone early, surging to a 35-21 lead after the first quarter behind 57 percent shooting. The Racers extended their advantage to 59-35 by halftime and never looked back, maintaining their efficiency throughout the contest. MSU finished shooting 53 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond the arc.

The junior backcourt duo of Ford and Poock proved particularly lethal from distance, combining for eight of the team’s 11 made three-pointers and accounting for 42 points and six assists.

Defensively, the Racers controlled the boards 36-29 and capitalized on Trevecca’s 20 turnovers, converting them into 24 points. Murray State also dominated in the paint with a 42-32 advantage and outscored the visitors 27-8 in bench points.

Tatum Shaw led Trevecca with 26 points on 11-of-21 shooting in the losing effort.

The Racers will open their regular season Friday at Southern Indiana, with tipoff scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
