I-24 to Close Overnight Near Kentucky Dam Exit for Construction Work

PADUCAH, Ky. — Motorists traveling on Interstate 24 in Marshall County should prepare for overnight closures early next week as construction crews shift traffic patterns near the Kentucky Dam exit.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced Thursday that I-24 will be temporarily closed near Exit 27 in Calvert City on Monday, Nov. 17 and Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. both nights.

Crews will move temporary barrier walls and update pavement striping to shift traffic to the right during the closure. The work will take place at mile point 26.6, where the interstate crosses over U.S. 62 at Exit 27.

The eastbound on-ramp at U.S. 62, located near Love’s Travel Stop, will also be closed during construction hours.

Law enforcement officers and flaggers will be stationed at the site to direct motorists through detour routes. Eastbound travelers will need to exit at Exit 27, take U.S. 62 and KY 453, and re-enter I-24 eastbound at Exit 31. Westbound drivers will exit at Exit 27 to U.S. 62 before returning to I-24 westbound via the on-ramp.

Officials said the work could be completed earlier than the scheduled 6 a.m. reopening time each night, depending on progress.

The closures are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if conditions are unfavorable. Once the barrier walls are relocated, all lanes on I-24 will remain open during the ongoing construction project, which is expected to continue through mid-December.

Transportation officials are urging drivers to allow extra travel time and exercise caution when passing through the work zone.
