(CALVERT CITY, Ky.) – The City of Calvert City is bringing back its annual Cranksgiving Challenge, inviting residents to work off their Thanksgiving dinner while enjoying the outdoors during the week of November 22-29.
The free community event welcomes participants of all ages and fitness levels to tackle a one-mile section of the Moneymaker Trail on foot or by bicycle. The challenge begins November 22, when organizers will mark a designated start and finish line along the trail.
“This is a great way to get folks on the Moneymaker Trail,” said Blair Travis, Calvert City’s director of marketing, communication, and business development. “The full trail is five miles of wooded single-track designed by local trail creator and workhorse Steve Moneymaker.”
Travis noted that the week-long challenge gives the community “a reason to get active after Thanksgiving while enjoying one of Calvert City’s natural gems.”
Participants can run, walk, or cycle the course as many times as they want throughout the week, recording their best times on a leaderboard posted at the trailhead. The fastest overall time earns bragging rights for the year and a commemorative T-shirt.
The Moneymaker Trailhead can be accessed by parking behind City Hall and following the paved multi-use path to the left behind the Calvert Nursing and Rehab facility.
Organizers ask that participants follow trail etiquette, including being courteous to other users, maintaining good sportsmanship, and—staying true to the post-Thanksgiving spirit—completing the trail “on a full belly.”
