(BENTON, Ky.) – The Marshall County Caring Needline received approximately 293 pounds of food donations this month from a local food drive organized by the Marshall County Democratic Party.
The drive was conducted as part of a statewide charitable initiative. According to Marshall County Democratic Party Chair Eryn Pritchett, the effort aims to address food insecurity in the community amid concerns about rising grocery costs.
“No child in Marshall County should be missing meals,” Pritchett said, citing concerns about food prices and recent changes to federal nutrition assistance programs.
The donation comes as policy debates continue in Washington over the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Approximately 600,000 Kentuckians currently receive SNAP benefits, including more than 40,000 households in Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District. Data indicates that more than half of those households include at least one child.
Recent federal budget legislation has raised questions about potential changes to SNAP eligibility and benefit levels. The July budget package passed along partisan lines, with Democratic lawmakers voting against provisions they say would reduce benefits and restrict program access.
The Marshall County Caring Needline serves residents experiencing food insecurity in the region.
