(MURRAY, Ky.) — Murray State University has announced Caroline Chambers and Amelia Lutz as recipients of the fall 2025 Outstanding Senior award, recognizing two students who have distinguished themselves through academic achievement and professional excellence.
Chambers, a native of Cunningham, Tennessee, will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness and a minor in unmanned aerial systems. The daughter of Phillip Chambers and Erin Cline, she maintains a 3.96 GPA and has earned a place on the President’s List every semester.
Her leadership roles include serving as president of both the Murray State Horticulture Club and Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, as well as a two-year stint as treasurer of the Honors Student Council. A Presidential Fellowship recipient, Chambers was awarded six scholarships totaling nearly $23,000 for the 2024-25 academic year. She also received the Outstanding Horticulture Club Senior award in April 2025.
Beyond academics, Chambers spearheaded community service initiatives, including raising approximately 2,000 tulips over two years for a fundraiser and beautification project. She also coordinated donations of more than 300 pounds of meat to Needline during government assistance reductions, leveraging her connections in the farming community.
Following graduation, Chambers plans to work in agribusiness while helping manage her family farm.
“Being a Racer has meant being surrounded by faculty and friends that are excited about my growth not only as a student, but as a person,” Chambers said. “Being named Outstanding Senior is an honor that I forever cherish.”
Lutz, from Saint Meinrad, Indiana, will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in music and a minor in Spanish. The daughter of Christopher and Julia Lutz, she holds a 3.98 GPA and is a member of the Murray State Honors College.
Her accomplishments include receiving the Murray State University Trustee Scholarship and the U.S. Department of State Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, which funded her study abroad experience in Salzburg, Austria.
Lutz has served as vice president of Alpha Mu Gamma national collegiate foreign languages honor society, All Campus Sing committee chair for Honors Student Council, and flute section leader in Racer Band. She has presented original research at Posters at the Capitol in Frankfort and the Kentucky Honors Roundtable at the University of Louisville, focusing on Spanish manuscript provenance and paleographical analysis.
After graduation, Lutz will serve as a Seton Teaching Fellow in New York City.
“Being a Racer has meant getting to learn and grow surrounded by friends and classmates who show me every day just how much is possible,” Lutz said. “Being named Outstanding Senior is a great honor that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
