(LYON COUNTY, Ky.) — Lyon County law enforcement made several arrests and investigated multiple incidents over the past week, including the recovery of stolen motorcycle components and the service of numerous warrants.
In one of the more notable cases, authorities arrested an Indiana man after discovering stolen parts on his motorcycle. David R. Gansert, 44, of Brownsburg, Indiana, was taken into custody November 16 at the Huck’s Travel Center in Kuttawa after callers reported a man possibly passed out on a motorcycle in the parking lot.
Sheriff Brent White and Deputy Bobby Beeler’s investigation revealed the registration plate on Gansert’s motorcycle didn’t match the vehicle, and he lacked proof of insurance. More significantly, a serial number on one of the motorcycle’s major components had been reported stolen from a motorcycle in Indianapolis. Gansert faces charges including receiving stolen property valued between $1,000 and $10,000, failure to maintain required insurance, and registration violations.
The same day, Sheriff White arrested William M. McQuigg Jr., 43, of Kuttawa, on a bench warrant for failure to appear in a civil case. McQuigg was arrested again four days later on November 20 and charged with violating a Kentucky emergency protective order or domestic violence order following a disturbance at a residence on KY-93 North.
On November 17, Deputy Beeler investigated a wildlife collision involving an Eddyville Police Department cruiser. Officer Joshua Oden, 35, of Cadiz, struck a deer on Port Authority Road. No injuries were reported, and the vehicle remained operational.
Deputy Lori Francis served a criminal summons November 19 on Tana S. Stewart, 35, of Gracey, charging her with unlawful transaction with a minor in the third degree. Stewart faces a December court date in Hopkinsville.
Law enforcement conducted multiple warrant services on November 21, arresting three individuals on out-of-county warrants. Joshua D. Mellencamp, 38, of Franklin; Christopher C. Thacker, 36, of Middlesboro; and Dominic E. Hodge, 37, of Radcliff, were all taken into custody on various charges ranging from failure to appear to engaging in organized crime. All three await extradition to their respective counties.
Also on November 21, Deputy Shannon Oliver investigated a hit-and-run collision at a Kuttawa business on Days Inn Drive. Samuel K. West, 25, of Franklin, Tennessee, returned to the scene at the deputy’s request after his 2015 GMC Sierra struck a business sign, causing approximately $3,000 in damage. No injuries were reported.
Deputies were assisted throughout the week by officers from the Eddyville Police Department. All arrested individuals were lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.
