(MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky.) — The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded three ballistic shields valued at more than $68,000 through a grant program launched by Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman, Sheriff Matt Hilbrecht announced today.
The grant program, designed to provide law enforcement agencies across the state with critical protective equipment at no cost, offers both soft body armor and hard ballistic shield protection to qualifying departments.
“We are very appreciative for the enhanced safety for our Deputies,” Hilbrecht said in a statement thanking the attorney general for his efforts to protect law enforcement officers statewide.
The three shields will be strategically deployed throughout the department. One shield has been assigned to the School Resource Officers stationed at Marshall County High School, while the remaining two will be used by the Patrol Division.
Without the grant funding, the purchase of the three shields would have cost the department more than $68,000, according to Hilbrecht.
The ballistic shields provide officers with critical protection during high-risk situations and active threat scenarios.
