(LYON COUNTY, Ky.) — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to numerous incidents during the Thanksgiving holiday period, including vehicle collisions, domestic disputes, and wildlife-related crashes.

On Tuesday, November 26, Chief Deputy Sam Adams investigated a single-vehicle accident on Hopewell Road at approximately 8:30 a.m. According to the report, a 2016 Dodge Dart had left the roadway and was unoccupied when Adams arrived on scene.

The officer later located and identified the driver as James Malone, 32, of Kuttawa. Malone was charged with operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license and failure to produce an insurance card. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Domestic Disputes Surge During Holiday

Between Wednesday, November 27, at 4:34 a.m. and Sunday, December 1, at 9:30 a.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to 10 domestic dispute-related calls throughout the county. Most incidents were resolved by separating the parties involved, with no charges filed. Several cases resulted in protective order petitions filed through the court system.

In one incident, a female was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Sheriff Brent White noted that service providers typically see increased demand during the holiday season. He reminded residents that Sanctuary, Inc. provides domestic violence services and emergency shelter at 800-766-0000, while Pennyroyal Center offers mental health and crisis stabilization services at 877-473-7766. The Kentucky 988 suicide and crisis lifeline is available 24/7 for those needing mental health or substance use counseling.

Thanksgiving Day Crashes on I-69

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 28, Deputy Josh Travis joined Kentucky State Police and other first responders at the scene of crashes on Interstate 69. Officials discovered two separate non-injury collisions near the same mile marker.

KSP investigated a rollover accident involving two occupants, while Deputy Travis investigated a collision involving a 2018 Subaru driven by Andrew L. Petit, 37, of Beaver Dam. Petit struck a deer while traveling southbound on I-69 and was not injured.

A second vehicle traveling south on I-69 then came upon the initial crash scene, lost control, and overturned in the roadway. Both the driver and passenger of that vehicle also escaped injury.

The Eddyville Fire Department, Eddyville Police Department, and Lyon County EMS assisted at the crash scenes.

Additional Deer Strike

On Friday, November 29, around 6:24 p.m., Deputy Shannon Oliver responded to another animal-related collision in Kuttawa. A 2013 Dodge Durango driven by John B. Boulton, 70, of Calvert City, struck a deer while traveling west on U.S. 62. Boulton and his passenger were uninjured in the collision.
