Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Region as Mixed Precipitation Expected

(PADUCAH, Ky.) – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory effective through Tuesday morning for the entire region, warning residents of hazardous travel conditions ahead.

The advisory, issued at 2:37 p.m. CST on Monnday, December 1, forecasts mixed precipitation beginning this evening and continuing into tomorrow morning. Most areas covered by the advisory can expect up to one inch of combined snow and sleet accumulation, along with a light glaze of icing. However, southwestern Indiana may see heavier snowfall, with up to two inches possible. Freezing drizzle is also possible throughout the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the wintry mix will create slippery and potentially dangerous conditions on roads, bridges, sidewalks and other untreated surfaces. Travel impacts are possible or likely during the Tuesday morning commute, as even small amounts of freezing drizzle can create significant hazards.

“It typically takes very little freezing drizzle to create significant travel impacts,” the weather service noted in its advisory.

Residents are urged to exercise caution if traveling during the affected period and to allow extra time for their Tuesday morning commute. Motorists should slow down, increase following distances, and be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions.

The Winter Weather Advisory covers cities including Paducah, Murray, Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Owensboro, Evansville, Mount Vernon, Marion, Cape Girardeau, Farmington, and surrounding communities.

For the latest weather updates and road conditions, residents should monitor local forecasts and check weather.gov/pah.
