
(MURRAY, Ky.) — The Murray State Racers used a commanding second-half performance to defeat the Morehead State Eagles 84-52 Tuesday night at the CFSB Center, extending their home winning streak to six games.
The Racers improved to 6-3 on the season and will return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Bellarmine. The game will feature a special ceremony honoring the 1999-2000 team and retiring the No. 31 jersey of Hall of Famer Isaac Spencer.
Murray State’s balanced offensive attack proved too much for the visitors, with six players reaching double figures in scoring for the first time since a 2022 victory over Austin Peay. Javon Jackson paced the Racers with 14 points, while Fred King contributed 12. Roman Domon, Mathis Courbon, and KJ Tenner each added 10 points. Domon also pulled down 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Racer.
The contest remained competitive through the opening 20 minutes, featuring five ties and seven lead changes. Murray State closed the first half with a 7-2 surge to take a 33-28 advantage into the locker room.
The Racers broke the game open after halftime, outscoring Morehead State 51-24 in the final period. A decisive 20-2 run, highlighted by four consecutive three-pointers, gave the home team a 59-36 cushion with just over nine minutes remaining. Murray State’s advantage grew to 34 points late in the contest.
The Racers’ defense held every Morehead State player below double figures until Davion Cunningham scored his 10th point with 1:21 left on the clock.
Murray State dominated the glass with a season-best 20 offensive rebounds, converting them into 18 second-chance points. The team’s bench continued its strong season, contributing 34 points to rank 18th nationally in bench scoring.
After struggling from beyond the arc in the first half, the Racers regrouped to shoot 6-for-14 from three-point range after intermission, finishing 10-of-31 for the game. Brayden Shorter extended his three-point scoring streak to six consecutive games.
The victory marked the fifth time this season Murray State has scored 50 or more points in a single half.
