(FRANKFORT, Ky.) — The Christian Fellowship School Eagles boys basketball team returned home with a state runner-up trophy after a thrilling run through the KCAC state tournament this past weekend.
The Eagles dominated their way to the championship game with three consecutive victories. CFS opened tournament play with a commanding 62-23 win over Frankfort Christian, followed by a 67-49 victory against Highlands Latin. In the semifinal round, the Eagles defeated Foundation Christian 59-46 to punch their ticket to the title game.
In a hard-fought championship matchup against Somerset Christian, the Eagles pushed the game to overtime before falling 76-70. Despite the close loss, CFS secured the state runner-up finish, capping an impressive tournament performance.
Grigg on Brink of Historic Milestone
Eagles senior Elijah Grigg is rewriting the record books as his final season unfolds. The standout shooting guard is currently on pace to shatter the Region 1 scoring record established by former Ballard Memorial star Jace Birney (2,722 points) just last year.
Grigg is also closing in on the all-time CFS scoring record of 2,621 points set by Chris Johnson in 1996 — a mark that has stood for nearly three decades. As if that weren’t enough, the versatile senior is expected to eclipse 1,000 career rebounds within the next few games, cementing his legacy as one of the most dominant players in school history.
The Eagles (4-1) will look to build on their tournament success on Tuesday against the Hickman County Falcons at 7:30 p.m. in Briensburg.
