Fatal Shooting at Kentucky State University Leaves One Dead, Another Injured; Suspect Arrested

(FRANKFORT, Ky.) — A shooting on the Kentucky State University campus Tuesday afternoon resulted in one fatality and left another victim hospitalized in critical but stable condition, according to law enforcement officials.

The Frankfort Police Department responded to reports of an active threat at approximately 3:30 p.m. EST. Officers quickly apprehended a suspect, who remains in police custody.

Campus officials immediately implemented a lockdown following the incident. In a statement released at 3:35 p.m. EST, authorities indicated the security measure would remain in effect indefinitely as the investigation continues.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear addressed the tragedy on social media, acknowledging that injuries had occurred and confirming law enforcement’s presence at the scene. The governor called for prayers for those impacted by the violence.

Franklin County Judge-Executive Michael Mueller released a statement expressing sorrow over the incident while commending the swift response from law enforcement agencies. Mueller urged the community to unite in support of the victims, their families, and the university community as they process the tragedy.

The Frankfort Sheriff’s Office confirmed via social media that they helped secure the campus perimeter during the response.

Both the police department and university administration have indicated they will provide additional details as the investigation progresses.
