(CALVERT CITY, Ky.) — The Calvert City Lions Club has completed a comprehensive vision screening initiative across Marshall County, examining the eyesight of more than 1,300 students over a six-day period.
Volunteers screened 1,363 students through the KidSight program, identifying 124 children who require professional eye examinations. The screenings revealed that third-grade students had the highest number of referrals, underscoring the critical need for early vision detection during key developmental years.
“Early vision screenings are essential for learning and development,” organizers noted, emphasizing how undetected vision problems can impact academic performance.
The screening effort brought together 18 volunteers from three Lions Clubs: Calvert City, Cadiz, and Lone Oak. The collaborative approach allowed the teams to efficiently move through multiple schools while ensuring thorough evaluations for each student.
The Lions Club credited the Marshall County Board of Education for facilitating access to students and expressed gratitude for the ongoing partnership that makes the annual screenings possible.
The KidSight program represents one of several community health initiatives the Lions Clubs conduct throughout the year, with vision care remaining a cornerstone of the organization’s mission to serve local children.
