(MURRAY, Ky.) — Murray State University evacuated and closed eight campus buildings Monday afternoon following a bomb threat that authorities later confirmed was a hoax.
The university received an email threatening Pogue Library earlier in the day, prompting officials to close multiple buildings out of an abundance of caution, according to a statement released at 3:43 p.m.
The affected buildings included Pogue Library, Waterfield Library, Carr Hall, Ruby Simpson, New Fine Arts, Old Fine Arts, Applied Sciences Building, and Lowry Center.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Murray State University Police Department, and other local agencies conducted thorough searches of the buildings and found no credible threat. The Office of Homeland Security also determined the threat was not legitimate.
Students who left personal belongings in Waterfield Library during the evacuation were able to retrieve them with a police escort until 4:30 p.m. Monday.
All affected buildings are scheduled to reopen for classes on Tuesday, January 13.
University officials thanked the campus community for their patience and cooperation during the incident, emphasizing that campus safety remains their top priority.
No arrests have been announced in connection with the threat.
