(MURRAY, Ky.) – Murray State junior forward Sharnecce Currie-Jelks has been named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league announced Monday.
The Jackson, Tennessee native, who transferred from Indiana University, put together another impressive week as she led the Racers to a pair of conference victories. Currie-Jelks averaged 15.0 points and 14.5 rebounds while shooting 46% from the field across the two wins.
Her standout performance came against Drake, where she recorded 18 points and 17 rebounds while adding five blocks and four steals to lead Murray State’s defensive effort. The showing was part of consecutive double-double performances for the 6-foot forward.
Currie-Jelks has established herself as one of the premier players in the MVC and across the country. She is currently the only player in the conference averaging a double-double and ranks as the only player nationally averaging at least 15 points and 12 rebounds per game.
The weekly honor is Currie-Jelks’ fourth of the season, underscoring her impact since joining the Racers program. Her presence in the paint has been instrumental in Murray State’s success.
Murray State continues its MVC schedule this week on the road in Carbondale on Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. against SIU before returning home Sunday to face Belmont.
