(WASHINGTON, D.C.)-Former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell issued a strong statement of support Friday for the ongoing U.S. and Israeli military operation against Iran, expressing solidarity with servicemembers engaged in what has been dubbed Operation Epic Fury.
“My prayers are with the brave U.S. and Israeli servicemembers carrying out Operation Epic Fury, and with the people of Iran who have long struggled for the right to determine their own future,” McConnell said.
The Kentucky Republican used the statement to sharply condemn the Islamic Republic, characterizing decades of Iranian governance as built on a foundation of violence both at home and abroad. He pointed to the regime’s longstanding “death to America; death to Israel” slogan as emblematic of its ideology and accused Tehran of exporting terrorism throughout the region for years.
McConnell reserved his harshest words for the Iranian government itself, drawing a distinction between the regime and the Iranian people. “A regime that relishes killing Arabs, Israelis, Americans, and its own people deserves no sympathy,” he said.
The statement reflects a broader show of support among senior Republican figures for the military operation, as Washington and Jerusalem move forward with coordinated strikes against the Iranian government.
