(EDDYVILLE, Ky.) — A caseworker at the Kentucky State Penitentiary was arrested Sunday after security footage allegedly showed her engaging in sexual intercourse with an inmate, Kentucky State Police announced.
Alysta Mathis, 26, of Dawson Springs, was taken into custody at approximately 3:40 p.m. CST on March 16 after KSP Post 1 detectives responded to a call from the prison. Officials at the facility reported that an employee had been observed on surveillance video in a sexual encounter with an inmate.
Troopers and a detective arrived on scene and opened an investigation. Following a review of the video footage, Mathis was arrested and charged with Rape in the Third Degree and Sodomy in the Third Degree. She was transported to the Crittenden County Jail.
Third-degree rape and sodomy charges in Kentucky typically apply to situations involving a person in a position of authority or supervision over another individual, such as a corrections employee and an inmate.
The investigation is ongoing, according to KSP Post 1 Detective Propes.
