(CALVERT CITY, Ky.) — The 2026 trap shooting season got off to a dramatic start at the Calvert City Gun Club this weekend, as 28 shooters representing five states converged for the 12 and 28 gauge two-gun tournament — and left fans with a finish to remember.

When the smoke finally cleared, Gavin Stevenson of Benton, Ky., and Mike Galloway of Dexter, Mo., had each posted identical scores of 195 out of 200 for High Overall honors, forcing a tiebreaker shootoff. Stevenson rose to the occasion, outdueling Galloway to claim the overall championship title.

In the 12 gauge event, Stevenson had already staked his claim as the day’s top performer, dropping just one clay en route to a 99 out of 100. Darrin Moore of Calvert City earned the runner-up spot with a 97, while Ken Ford of Sharpe took third with a 96.

The 28 gauge event belonged to Galloway, who also shot a 99 out of 100 to take that title. Ford turned in another strong performance to finish runner-up with a 97, while Josh Beard of Cape Girardeau, Mo., rounded out the podium, also carding a 97.

Ford’s consistency across both events was a highlight of the day, as he placed in the top three in all three categories to finish third overall with a combined 193 out of 200.
