(GRAVES COUNTY, Ky.) — A Murray man who owns a local insurance agency was arrested Tuesday morning after a Graves County Sheriff’s investigation found that he had defrauded a Graves County church out of more than $10,000.
Glen David Ramey, 59, of Murray, owner of David Ramey Insurance Company, was taken into custody at approximately 10:40 a.m. Tuesday at his Murray business. He faces charges of Fraudulent Insurance Acts of $10,000 or more and Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition of Property over $10,000.
According to Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden, detectives determined that Ramey collected premium payments from a local church for property and liability insurance coverage but never purchased the policies — leaving the congregation entirely without coverage.
“Detectives learned that Mr. Ramey had fraudulently misused funds paid to him and his business directly for the purpose of purchasing insurance policies,” the sheriff’s office stated. The alleged offenses are said to have occurred from 2022 through the present.
The Kentucky Department of Insurance was contacted during the course of the investigation, and one of its investigators assisted Graves County detectives in executing the arrest.
Ramey was transported to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, where he was processed before being taken to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center and later transferred to an out-of-county detention facility.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being conducted jointly by Graves County Sheriff’s detectives and the Kentucky Department of Insurance.
