(MURRAY, Ky.) — The Murray State Racers women’s basketball program continues to add talent this offseason, landing former Evansville Purple Aces guard Sydney Huber via the transfer portal.
The 6-foot guard from Cedar Rapids, Iowa brings an immediate scoring punch to a Racers squad that has won back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference championships. In her freshman season at Evansville, Huber averaged 8.9 points per game, 2.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and shot 35 percent from three-point range — numbers that project well for a Murray State team that finished among the NCAA Division 1’s best offensively.
Huber announced her commitment on X with a simple but enthusiastic message: “Excited for what’s next!! #committed”.
Sydney comes from a family of basketball lifers. Huber’s mother, Stacy, was an All-American at Iowa State from 1996 to 2000. She was drafted by the WNBA’s, Utah Starzz. Both of Sydney’s aunts, Brenda Frese and Marsha Frese, played college basketball. Brenda is the Head Coach of the Maryland Terrapins and coached in a First Round NCAA Tournament matchup in Chapel Hill, North Carolina last month against the Racers. She has been a 2 time AP National Coach of the Year and guided her Terps to a 78-75 OT win over Duke to claim the 2006 National Championship. Aunt Marsha is an assistant coach at Georgia Tech.
Her addition marks the second portal pickup (Claire Johnson-Nebraska) for the Racers in the past week. Head Coach Rechelle Turner, speaking recently on the Racer Report Podcast with Dave Winder, indicated the program planned to be active in the portal, targeting two to three additions total heading into the 2026-27 season.
