(MURRAY, Ky.) — Sharnecce Currie-Jelks capped off an exceptional Feast Week by sweeping The Valley’s weekly honors, earning both Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week recognition after leading Murray State to a pair of signature victories.
The junior forward from Jackson, Tennessee, who transferred from Indiana University, delivered back-to-back double-doubles as the Racers went undefeated during the holiday tournament in Daytona Beach.
Currie-Jelks produced a career-high 32 points along with 11 rebounds in Murray State’s victory over George Mason, then followed up with 23 points and 10 rebounds against Boston College. The win over the Eagles marked a milestone for the program — its first-ever victory over an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent.
Her 32-point explosion against George Mason represents the highest single-game scoring total in The Valley this season and ranked as the seventh-best individual performance across Division I during the week.
The stellar week brought Currie-Jelks’ season totals to 27.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 63 percent from the field and 88 percent from the free-throw line. She has now recorded five double-doubles through the early portion of the season.
Currie-Jelks leads The Valley in scoring with a 20.9 points-per-game average, a figure that ranks 19th nationally and has established her as one of the premier performers in women’s college basketball this season.
