(MURRAY, Ky.) — Murray State junior forward Sharnecce Currie-Jelks has been named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the second week in a row after a dominant two-game stretch that helped propel the Racers to a pair of victories.

The Jackson, Tennessee native averaged 24.5 points and 13.0 rebounds while shooting an impressive 61 percent from the field during the week. Currie-Jelks also converted 87 percent of her free throw attempts in the two wins.

The junior’s stellar week began with a 20-point, 14-rebound double-double performance at Morehead State. She followed that up with a 29-point outburst against Austin Peay, adding 12 rebounds while going 10-for-12 from the free throw line.

The recognition marks another milestone for Currie-Jelks in her first season with the Racers, as she continues to establish herself as one of the conference’s premier frontcourt players.

Murray State is currently on a five game winning streak (7-2) and improved in the NET Rankings from 126th to 90th on Monday.
