(MURRAY, Ky.) — The Murray State Racers women’s basketball program has bolstered its 2026-27 roster with the addition of guard Claire Johnson, a McCracken County High School alumna who announced her transfer to Murray State via social media.
Johnson brings two seasons of collegiate experience to a Racers program that has claimed back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference championships. The junior-to-be posted on X, “Turns out there’s no place like home! So excited to be back and thankful for Gods plan #shoesup”
The Western Kentucky native began her collegiate career at Samford in 2024-25, where she quickly established herself as one of the Southern Conference’s brightest young players. She averaged 12.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game, earning second-team all-conference honors in her freshman campaign.
Johnson then headed to Lincoln, playing for the Nebraska Cornhuskers this past season. She appeared in 31 games for the Big Ten program, averaging 3.5 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 0.5 steals per contest.
Now, the former Lady Mustang returns to western Kentucky, joining a Racers squad that has established itself as one of the Missouri Valley Conference’s premier programs. With a proven scoring ability at the collegiate level and Power Four experience under her belt, Johnson figures to be an impactful addition as Murray State looks to defend its conference crown for a third consecutive season.
